Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has been found to restore hair growth when hair loss results from androgenic alopecia, which simply means that the hair follicle has begun to shrink. PRP contains growth factors and proteins that accelerates tissue repair. The concentrated platelets are injected into the scalp and heal the hair follicles.
At my clinic I use the Eclipse PRP System, which eliminates nearly all of the red and white blood cells, while sparing the majority of the platelets. This is significant, because the technology of the medical device produces a remarkably high concentration of PRP, with a low inflammatory profile. A series of four treatments is required. Each treatment is one month apart. Maintenance treatments are usually every six months once the hair loss is under control.
