WHAT IS BELKYRA™?
Belkyra™ is an injectable compound made with Deoxycholic Acid. Belkyra™ is approved Health Canada and is the first and only non-surgical treatment that targets and eliminates fat cells to improve the appearance of fullness in the area under the chin.
HOW DOES BELKYRA™ WORK?
Belkyra™ targets and eliminates fat cells when injected into the area under your chin. Belkyra™ gradually improves your chin profile over several treatment sessions customized by your doctor. Once your desired results are achieved, re-treatment is not expected. When Belkyra™ is injected into the fat below the chin, it dissolves the lipids inside fat cells, causing them to break down. Belkyra™ only targets fat cells so that it won’t harm skin or muscle tissue. Treated fat cells gradually leave the body via the liver and lymphatic system without the need for any further intervention.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING MY BELKYRA™ TREATMENT?
Belkyra™ is a quick & safe treatment, which can be completed in 15-20 minutes. Belkyra does not produce significant discomfort, but some patients report experiencing a light prickling or burning sensation during treatment. Ice is applied prior and immediately following each injection session.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER MY BELKYRA™ TREATMENT?
Patients can resume most activities immediately. Belkyra™ gradually improves your chin profile through a series of treatment sessions customized during your initial complimentary consultation. Many patients treated with Belkyra™ experience visible improvement of their chin profile in 2-3 treatments.
HOW LONG WILL MY BELKYRA™ LAST?
Most patients experience a permanent reduction in submental fat.It is important to maintain a stable weight to prevent any remaining fat cells to from expanding.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF BELKYRA™?
Patients can resume most activities immediately. Most common side effects are swelling, minor bruising, and numbness to the area following the procedure. Your health care practitioner will review all the rare potential side effects at your complimentary initial consultation.

PRE-TREATMENT GUIDELINES FOR BELKYRA™

Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.

Schedule your Belkyra appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation as bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.

Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area being treated.

Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of light-headedness during your treatment.
POST-TREATMENT GUIDELINES FOR BELKYRA™

Do not, touch, press, rub, massage, or manipulate the treatment area.

Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

Avoid extensive sun, tanning beds, steam or sauna rooms or any other activity that involves heating the skin for 72 hours following your treatment.

Avoid other cosmetic treatments such as injectables, laser, ultrasound, peels, facials or micro-dermabrasion to the Belkyra treatment area.

Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excess swelling.

You may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour.

It is normal to experience bruising, redness, itching, swelling and/or soreness that may last up to 14 days following your procedure. If you experience any pain or discomfort you may take Tylenol or other Acetaminophen-containing products as directed.

Take Arnica tablets to help the bruising and swelling.

Please report to your provider immediately if you develop an asymmetric smile or facial muscle weakness, skin ulceration in the treatment area, difficulty swallowing, or if any existing symptom worsens.
